I prefer to oversize the smooth plastics in this example so that also needs heading heavier to the jig to fish The existing but something that operates effectively is usually to combo up smooth plastics by using a tipped minnow or shiner.  I think the plastic provides some profile and perhaps vibration exactly where these fish can find it superior
